I'm no Superman (and even if I was...)

Even Superman Needed a Team

I saw the new Superman movie this week, and at the risk of sparking a nerdy argument, I gotta say, I really enjoyed it.

Some people will complain that they made him seem too weak - but I feel that made him more relatable. Even though he’s a literal god among men, he still needs help from other people. Just like we need help from other people.

Whether he’s facing off against the big bad villain, trapped in a seemingly hopeless situation, or just wrestling with who he is and what he stands for, he always has someone in his corner.

Sometimes it’s Lois Lane.

Sometimes it’s his adoptive parents.

Sometimes it’s another superhero (or super dog) stepping in at just the right moment.

Even in his “Fortress of Solitude,” he’s not really alone.

[Light spoiler alert] At one point in the movie there are multiple major conflicts happening at once. People are waiting for Superman to show up and save the day in both situations, but he simply cannot be in two places at the same time. Instead of insisting that one hero does it all, the story allows other people to contribute and share the win.

And I think that's a much better lesson than “victory is reserved for unbreakable demigods who can shoot lasers out of their face.”

Solopreneurs Aren’t Meant to Fly Solo

A lot of us try to white-knuckle our way through business by ourselves.

We’re smart, capable, resourceful. But we’re not bullet-proof.

It’s not uncommon to find ourselves stuck, tired, and second-guessing everything.

It doesn’t take getting stomped on by a 300-foot monster to feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Filing taxes or trying to migrate to a different email marketing platform will probably do the trick.

What we need isn’t more strength (or better acting skills to mask our weaknesses). What we need is each other.

We need our own “Justice Gang.”

People who know the real us.

Who can call us out....

And cheer us on.

People who bring their own special abilities to the table.

People who show up when things get hard and remind us what we’re capable of.

I’m Putting Together a Team

That’s why I’m launching a mastermind group for entrepreneurs.

This will be a space where self-employed folks like you can:

  • Get honest feedback on your business

  • Share wins and work through roadblocks

  • Stay consistent and focused

  • Be challenged and encouraged

  • Know you're not in this by yourself

It’s for people who are serious about growth, but don’t want to burn out or go it alone.

If that sounds like your kind of crew, reach out directly and I’ll send you more details.

Self-employment doesn't have to be by-yourself-employment.

🦸 Hit reply and say, “I’m interested in the mastermind” if you want in on the founding group.
