Fix It or Replace It?

How to Know What Your Website (or Mailbox) Really Needs

Our mailbox was looking a little... rough.

It had rust spots. Peeling paint. A couple small holes that let water leak in. If it stormed, I had to run out and rescue the mail before it turned into papier-mâché.

And it didn’t have a flag, so I never knew what to do with outgoing mail. Hang it out from under the lid and pray it doesn't rain? Chase down the mailman? Just take it to the post office?

I started Googling replacements. Which meant the internet started flooding my feeds with ads for fancy new mailboxes at every turn. And they almost got me. I was about to pull the trigger on a brand new, heavy duty, lockable, weatherproof, mailbox with a concealed outgoing mail clip for added protection from theft & weather!!! And it was on sale for just $119 (or 4 interest-free payments of $30 with Affirm)!!!!!*

But right before I clicked “Buy Now,” I remembered something.

I had half a can of black spray paint in the basement.

So I pulled the box off the wall, scrubbed off the rust, patched the holes with some waterproof tape, gave it a fresh coat of paint… and guess what?

It looks great. Not perfect. But a whole lot better. And it works just fine.

It was kinda like that.

Your Website Might Just Need a Makeover—Not a Demolition

We do this a lot in business.

We look at something that’s a little outdated, a little worn, and assume the solution is to replace it entirely.

And sometimes, yes, that is the right call. But more often than not, you just need to freshen it up.

Especially when it comes to your website.

If your site feels a little clunky…

If your photos are outdated, the copy doesn’t reflect what you really do, or it’s just not converting…

You don’t need to start over.

Sometimes all it takes is a little elbow grease:

  • Swap in updated photos or testimonials

  • Rewrite your headline to speak more clearly to your audience

  • Fix some technical issues so the site loads faster

  • Tweak your layout or calls-to-action to guide visitors more effectively

  • Integrate the tools you already use (like your email platform or booking calendar) to simplify things

These changes can add a lot of curb appeal to your business, boost your conversions, and boost your confidence.

Not Sure What Needs Fixing? I’ve Got You.

If you’re too close to it to see what’s wrong—or you just don’t want to spend hours in the weeds, I offer affordable Website + Tech Stack Audits.

I’ll take a look under the hood, tell you what’s working, what’s holding you back, and what changes would make the biggest impact (without requiring a full-blown rebuild).

And if it is time for a brand new site? I can help with that too.

But don’t assume you need to tear it all down. Sometimes a little paint is all it takes to turn something meh into something you’re proud of.
